Lead to Climb Retreat

JOIN SHE MOVES MOUNTAINS FOR A WEEKEND OF ROCK CLIMBING technical skills, yoga, community, and so much more!


This April we will be holding an all-inclusive lead climbing retreat that will include curriculum from our Anchors & rappelling and Intro to Sport clinics. After attending this instructive retreat you will walk away with the essential knowledge needed to climb, set-up, and clean sport routes.

Included in this three day retreat is two nights accommodations at The Crashpad, two breakfast, one dinner, snacks, over 12 hours of climbing instruction outdoors with an AMGA instructor, yoga by Peace.Strength.Yoga, evening activities, recovery and training Q & A with SMM guide and certified personal trainer Bethany Macke, and a North Face swag bag.


CLIMBING

Over the course of three days, climbers will be taught curriculum from our Anchors & Rappelling clinic and our Intro to Sport clinic (Please refer to each clinic description)

A heavy emphasis will be put on ground school and climbing will be in the 5.8-5.10+ range. (Experience leading at least 5.9 in the gym is recommended)

Climbing locations will be within 45 minutes of Chattanooga. Crag location is determined based on weather.

Our guide ratio is 4:1 to ensure quality and instructor/client one-on-one time.

Opportunities will be presented to lead climb in these guided groups if climbers can demonstrate safe technique on mock lead.


YOGA

Yoga will be offered twice during the retreat by Peace.Strength.Yoga

Rock climber, yogi, and owner of PSY- Kaylee Frano, is a 500 hour certified yoga teacher with over 4000 hours of teacher training. We are excited to have her start our mornings out with one-hour long yoga sessions each day.


Accommodations & meal plan

The entire first floor of The Crashpad will be rented out for our use. Everyone will be provided with their own private bunk for two nights. A private room can be arranged for your stay at an additional cost, email Savannah@shemovesmountains.org for more details.

Mindful and healthy food options will be provided for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Dinner on Friday night will be provided by Land to Table Farm; Saturday night will be catered by The Flying Squirrel.

CLIMB - EXPLORE - BE FREE - BE WILD - GROW

She Moves Mountains is partnering with Wild and Weightless to create a space to make connections between the physical experience of rock climbing and our relationship to our bodies, drawing from paralleling themes such as fear, control, motivation, empowerment, and ego-driven expectations. 

ABOUT



This outdoor experience aims to build compassionate relationships with our bodies through time spent outside, and will offer space to challenge the myths we have created about our bodies.

We will climb multiple routes within your climbing range, talk about the emotions that surface during them. We will also share a meal provided by She Moves Mountains while practicing mindful eating techniques. Throughout the course of the day we will be engaging journal processing and deep discussions on the topic of our bodies and rock climbing. 

This clinic is for any woman who struggles with their body image and/or their relationship to food and exercise. No experience required.

Cost: $225

Includes:

16 hours of rock climbing guidance and body positivity practices, all group and personal climbing gear, and swag bag provided by The North Face

Does not include:

Transportation to and from Chattanooga, and gratuities for She Moves Mountains guides.

Both new and experienced climbers are welcome.

Meet the guides

The curriculum utilized in this clinic was developed by Kristen Ales and Sarah Regan. Kristen holds a Master's degree from Naropa University in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, with an emphasis in Wilderness Therapy. Sarah is an AMGA SPI certified guide who has taught this clinic on the west coast and is working toward developing this clinic further in other locations.
